TOUR 1. The Minster, the Masons’ Loft, Chapter House Roof
The Chapter House was built, and is still used, as the meeting place of the Dean and Chapter, the governing body of the Minster. It was built between 1270 and 1280 after the North Transept and was a separate building, later connected by what is known as the Chapter House Vestibule in c.1330. It has a unique “gothic dome” roof, without a central column inside.Above the Chapter House Vestibule sits the Masons’ Loft. It was used by the masons as their drawing office. The room has a fine early 14th century scissors roof, a fireplace and a garderobe.
TOUR 2. The Minster, the Crypt Passages, Five Sisters Window
This tour explores the passages to the north and south of the Crypts and the roof void above St John’s Chapel to give a greater understanding of the building. This tour culminates with a breath-taking trip to the top walkway over the Five Sisters window.
TOUR 3. The Minster, West End Towers, Bells
This tour includes the South West tower, Clock Chamber, Ringing Chamber, Bell Chamber, the outside western gallery and Great Peter ringing chamber.
